At the Pre-School stage, we strive to create a warm, secure and love-filled environment. Predictable, regular schedules create an atmosphere of harmony and rhythm. Play is an integral part of every day. Expression is encouraged through singing, free dancing and exploration of colours and form. Sensorial activities nurture healthy development of the internal pathways to learning. The foundations of literacy skills are laid through story-telling, singing, finger-plays, puppet-shows and games. Numeracy skills are developed by working with numbers and shapes. Experiential learning is enhanced through a large number of field visits.
During the Junior School years, our effort is to
- reach out to the child’s emotions
- cultivate her imagination
- use it as a vehicle to enrapture her in the learning process and
- build the skills necessary for focused learning.
To achieve this goal, we will emphasise, in addition to the the traditional 3 R’s of Reading, Writing and Arithmetic, 3 other R’s – Rhythm, Repetition, Reverence. Our core curriculum includes English, Mathematics and Art, with Hindi, Science and Social Studies being additional subjects. At TATVA, Art will not be there just for Art’s sake. It is in fact the core of education and is used to convey and depict academic content that the child can connect with more deeply. To bring in a deep rhythm to the programme, core subjects will be handled intensively within an interesting framework called the Main Lesson Block. Unlike traditional classes that are 40-45 minutes long, our MLB’s will consist of a 2 hour class on one subject everyday for a month.
Field visits will be organised to enable children to experience stimuli beyond the school environment. Such experiential learning makes the curriculum significantly richer. At TATVA, Sports too is not for sports’ sake or for the purpose of building careers in sports. Rather, it is designed to be another tool enabling the holistic development of the child. In the Junior school stage, it will revolve around group games and cooperative games. Every class will have a class teacher who will be the key person in the learning process, acting as the glue that holds various components of education into a wholesome experience.
Middle School is where the child begins formal, intensive and extensive study of all core subjects in the curriculum. Language includes a formal study of grammar, reading and composition with emphasis on fiction, non-fiction and poetry. The learning of Mathematics, particularly Geometry, strongly engages the imaginative side of the child. Mathematics is related to life through the application of Arithmetic and Algebra to comprehend and solve day-to-day problems. In Science, there is a strong emphasis on learning the natural sciences by the proper scientific method.
History is presented as a multi-dimensional study across the ages. Geography starts with local geography and its relation to life, and extends to the study of geography and its influence on life. The emphasis on art continues, including art as a means to present academic content in various areas. There is also an increased emphasis on the creative arts. Sports get more serious as children, unlike in the Junior School, are ready for competition. The emphasis is more on team games such as basketball, volleyball, throwball, kho-kho, etc.
Senior School is the last stage of schooling before children step into the fascinating world of higher education before entering the real world of adults. At TATVA, the senior school curriculum therefore has a clear two-fold target – to enable children to face and excel in the rigorous and comprehensive IGCSE and A level examinations conducted by Cambridge University qualify in the requirements of various options of further education they may choose to pursue.
The curriculum consists of intensive, focused study of core subjects. The core subjects are English, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies. We see the 4 years as an integrated phase in which we meet the requirements of IGCSE certificate examinations such as the IGCSE and the A levels. The Arts curriculum includes focused learning of one of many Fine Arts and a range of Practical Arts. Children focus on particular sports in which they excel and continue building their skills through the 4 years of senior school.
Every child is given career counseling to understand the requirements and implications of each career and develop a strong career focus.
